Staff Physical Therapist

Dr. Allison Berger, PT, DPT

Allison had her first encounter with physical therapy as a teenager with knee pain, but didn’t think much of it. After a dramatic jaw injury in college, Allison met a physical therapist who treated from a scientific more than an athletic perspective, and who encouraged her to pursue a career in the field.

In her clinical practice, Dr. Berger prioritizes a comprehensive subjective assessment, highly personalized plans of care, and intensive patient education. Allison will listen to you, consider your symptoms, and explain her thought process in a way that helps you understand your body, conditions, prognosis and plan.

Allison specializes in the treatment of patients with chronic pain, particularly due to connective tissue disorders such as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder, as well as conditions like fibromyalgia and arthritis. These conditions affect the whole body, so Allison has often treated patients quite literally from jaw to toes! Allison seeks to improve self-confidence and self-efficacy for patients with chronic, complex and evolving conditions. Allison believes in treating the whole person, working with patients to create a sustainable plan for rehabilitation that fits into their real lives. Allison is also a trauma-informed provider, with a commitment to a health at every size approach.

Education

After graduating from Montgomery Blair High School, Allison earned her Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Mount Holyoke College in 2014. She continued her education at the University of Maryland at Baltimore, where Allison received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy degree in 2021.
